NOVICE HOUSE LEAGUE SEASON OVERVIEW
Hi Novice Families,
Schedule
Regular Novice PRACTICE days will be either Mondays (4:00-5:15pm) or Thursdays (4:00-5:15pm) and alternating Tuesdays (4:00-5:00pm). ie. Orange/Navy - Mondays, White/Yellow - Thursdays, Tuesdays alternating.
Regular Novice GAME days will be Saturdays (8:30-9:45am).
Always in the Red Arena unless otherwise noted. Once teams are selected on October 26, you will be notified of your team color/coaches and schedules will be loaded onto the Novice section of the SMHA website.
Exhibition Games
In addition to our regular house league games versus Stettler, we will also be scheduling some exhibition games at home and away. Secured games will be posted as of October 26, but be aware changes/additions to game schedule will occur.
Tournaments
Please save the date for our Home Tournament February 21-23, 2020. All Novice teams will be participating. Stay posted for an initial tournament committee meeting early November.
Each team will also have 2 away tournaments. Expect to have one tournament in November and likely one in the new year.
Female Team
We are excited to have enough girls to run a separate female novice team this year. However, girls are still welcome to play on one of the boy teams if they wish. Let us know preference as soon as possible, otherwise all girls will default to the female team. We are striving to book girls exhibition games and tournaments (including inviting female teams to our home tourney).
Team Managers
A team manager is required for each team. Thanks for the interest expressed so far. If you'd like to have your name considered for the role, please let us know.
We will be taking team pictures at the beginning of the first practices (Oct. 28 and 31) as a requirement of the Dodge Hockey Sponsorship application. This provides possible funding of $500 per team. If you have not already completed your photo release form (should have been emailed via Dodge), please do so before that date. Players will not be included in the photo without the release complete.
QUESTIONS/ISSUES
If there are any concerns you have there is a proper chain to follow. Please do not go to SMHA board, please bring your issue/questions to Meghan or to Chelsey. Once teams have been made you can also go to your manager or coach, who will then bring it forward to Chelsey or Meghan. If it is required, we as directors will take it to the board.
SOCIAL MEDIA
There is a ZERO TOLERANCE policy in the works for social media. Please be mindful and bring your grievance to Chelsey or Meghan, do NOT post to social media. Two older teams had to turn in their 2018/2019 Championship banners at the last CAHL meeting due to social media posts. There will be consequences for the player if parents or players make inappropriate comments on social media.
